Your EU customer is asking. Answer once.
CBAM emissions, LkSG and CSDDD questionnaires, EUDR geolocation: if you sell into the EU, every customer asks for the same data in a different format. With Compass you keep one compliance file and release it to each customer.
Why EU customers ask for three kinds of data.
Each request comes from a specific EU law. Your customer is the one with the legal duty, but only you have the data.
| Request | Legal basis | What your customer needs from you |
|---|---|---|
| CBAM | Reg. (EU) 2023/956 as amended by Reg. (EU) 2025/2083. Definitive period since 1 January 2026. Importers above 50 tonnes of CBAM goods per year (hydrogen and electricity excluded from the threshold) buy certificates for embedded emissions. | Specific direct (and for cement and fertilisers, indirect) embedded emissions per product, with production route and precursors, ideally in the Commission's communication template. |
| LkSG CSDDD | German LkSG (1,000+ employees in Germany, in force). EU CSDDD as amended by Dir. (EU) 2026/470, applying from 26 July 2029 to companies above 5,000 employees and €1.5bn turnover. | Answers on human rights and environmental risks in your operations and supply chain, policies, grievance channel, contractual assurances. |
| EUDR | Reg. (EU) 2023/1115 as amended by Reg. (EU) 2025/2650. Applies from 30 December 2026 (large and medium), 30 June 2027 (micro and small). | Geolocation of production plots, country, production period and evidence of legality for cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, rubber, soy, wood and derived products. |
What happens if you do not answer.
Default values replace your real emissions. If your EU customer does not get verified actual data, they must use the Commission's default values for CBAM. These are set conservatively and, from 2026, include a mark-up that rises each year (10% in 2026, 20% in 2027, 30% from 2028 for steel, aluminium and cement, according to the Luxembourg CBAM authority).2 At a certificate price of €82.32 in the third quarter of 2026,1 that difference lands on your price.
Your offer becomes harder to accept. Many EU procurement teams now rate suppliers on how quickly and completely they provide compliance data. A missing questionnaire or emission file can mean a lost tender, even if your product is competitive.

Supplier questions.
Do I need to buy CBAM certificates myself?
No. The EU importer, as authorised CBAM declarant, buys and surrenders certificates. Your role is to provide emission data so they do not have to use default values.
Is the CSDDD questionnaire the same as the LkSG one?
They overlap heavily but are worded differently. Compass keeps one set of answers and maps it to each format.
Can I share my file with several customers?
Yes. Access is granted per customer and module and can be withdrawn at any time.
What does it cost?
Free if a customer invites you. If you want us to collect the data and prepare the file, we quote based on the number of plants and products.
Is this legal advice?
No. Compass is software and a data service. For legal questions, consult your own counsel.
